FREESTYLE

The fastest of the 4 swimming styles, freestyle offers three types of swimming techniques - Hip Driven, Shoulder Driven, And Body Driven. The technique you choose depends mostly on the distance you swim. For example, Open Water swimmers use a variant of Hip Driven swimming in order to utilise body rotation and spread the workload for longer periods of time.

BODY POSITION

“Posture-Line-Balance”

Balance and rotation key

Line runs from the top of head to the feet.

Lead with the top of the head

Body line rides the surface of the water

OBSERVATIONS & THOUGHTS

Focus on “front-quadrant” swimming.

Fingers pointing to the bottom of pool help keep

elbows high and limits crossover

Finish stroke at hip or slightly past;

pop elbow upon exit of hand (break the ice).

Don’t over-emphasize finish
